If you’re in the market for one of the many luxury apartments in America you’ve probably checked a lot of the major real estate search sites. But finding a good apartment can be tricky, especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for. It can be difficult to find a good one, especially if you’re looking for something a little high class.

So to help you narrow down your search list to the best luxury apartments in your area here are a few tips we compiled just for you:

1. Don’t Wait For Summer

This can be a little tricky to do, as summer is the most popular time of the year to move for many, but you want to avoid it for a number of reasons. The first is that this time of the year is busy and so apartment prices and availability are dramatically impacted. Prices will rise and availability will become scarce.

You can find the best prices and unit numbers in winter, and can often save a few hundred dollars on more pricey units if you sign a lease then. So move during the off-season, taking a long or short lease if you can avoid a summertime move. Think about the end of your lease when you sign it, to avoid paying a higher rent when the renewal comes around.

2. Don’t Be Unrealistic

One of the biggest things you can’t do is set unrealistic expectations when you’re looking at a new place. You can’t go in and expect the best prices and amenities. If you think you’re going to get two bedrooms, a washer and dryer, and all for the price of $700, then you didn’t do your research. You should always look into what you want before you start searching for any time of rental, apartment or townhouse.

You should set a budget before you approach moving. Think of the amount of rent you’re expecting to pay, what you can afford, and the maximum rent you can pay. The average of these three things is a good starting point.

3. Don’t Be Afraid To Negotiate

Leases can provide wiggle room, no matter what you’re leasing. Luxury apartments are no different in this regard. Properties want their units leased with tenants living in them. You can negotiate with the owners and try to find something that can be worked out with them for the best deal. Don’t be afraid to do that.

Don’t expect to lower the rent by several hundred dollars, but there is the ability to at least lower it a little.

So no matter what kind of apartment you’re looking for, luxury or otherwise, keeping these three things in mind will help you on the quest for the perfect one for you.
