What to Look For in Luxury Homes

Luxury real estate is one of the biggest industries in the world. With millions of dollars and enormous estates changing hands, it can seem a bit intimidating, but with the right real estate agents by your side, the luxury home buying process will be no different than buying a smaller home.

While the process of buying luxury homes may be the same as when buying a house under $200,000, the houses themselves are certainly not. The enormous houses of the early 2000s are out of style, and modern luxury homes rarely exceed 4,000 or 6,000 square feet. This does not mean they are any less luxurious, of course.

The first thing luxury home builders consider is location. Homes with views of golf courses are no longer in style, as they are considered too public. Hills, vineyards, and ocean views are all very much in demand. Outdoor kitchens, fireplaces, and natural-looking pools are all popular yard amenities that can be found at luxury homes.

Internally, decor trends are continuing to change. Instead of tiered home theater seating, sectional couches are in style. Wine cellars are moving away from being cold, dark, storage. Instead, homeowners are installing lights and comfortable furniture so that they can host wine tastings with their friends and family.

While homeowners are scaling down the size of kitchens, they are still considered the central room of the house. With stainless steel appliances, quartz and sandstone countertops, and extra pantry space, the kitchens’ slightly-diminished size will not affect the homeowners’ ability to have gourmet meals at the drop of a hat.

If you have any specific amenities you are looking for, consider drafting a checklist for buying a home that you can show your real estate agent. Ranking the amenities in order of importance will help the real estate agent narrow down the choices of homes to look at. Once you know what your options are, you should have no problems buying your luxury home. More on this.
