Whether you live in a sprawling, urban ,metropolitan area or suburban or rural community, apartment hunting can be a pain. While the opportunity to find a new living space can be viewed as an exciting, fresh start, for many it can be difficult, especially if the circumstances surrounding the move require you to move in short amount of time. However, the best apartments don’t have to be hard to come by.

For those living in metropolitan centers, renting lofts and apartments is simply a way of life. City loft apartments offer beautiful views along with the comfort and convenience of modern, world-class amenities. Though some city loft apartments can be pricey, a loft apartment can also be quite affordable to rent if you know where to look. Also, lofts for rent in suburban areas are also an affordable option to home ownership.

Whether you choose to rent a loft or rent a luxury apartment, begin your search by spreading the word to family, friends, co-workers, and loved ones. The more people that are looking, the better your chances of finding the best apartments for affordable rates. Chances are your inner circle may already know or be able to recommended a landlord or property management company.

As always, websites such as Craigslist, apartmentfinder.com, and other online forums can be extremely helpful in finding the best apartments within your price range. However, be sure to review ads with a critical eye. Not all apartment listings are created equal, or even accurate for that matter. Many can be misleading, and do not paint an accurate picture of what the space actually looks like. Wording can tricky, so be sure to take note of features or amenities that do not seem to fit the space.

When viewing ads for standard and loft apartments for rent, be sure to take notes and jot down any questions you may have before contacting the landlord to schedule a viewing. Common questions include, are utilities included, and if not, how much do they cost on average? Are there washer and dryer hook ups or is access to laundry facilities close by? What is your pet policy? What happens if I have to break my lease?

Last but not least, it’s always helpful to bring a friend or family member with you in order to have another set of eyes. They may notice something that you may not, or may ask further questions that can provide you with greater insight.

As always, go with your gut. If you do not feel comfortable with the landlord or something feels off, it’s best to look elsewhere.
