American donations to charity continue to amaze and warmth the hearts of Americans across the country and, indeed, people around the world. In 2013, for example, Americans donated about $418 billion to charity. Of that some, 72% came from individual donors. Individual donations provide by far the largest portion of charitable donations in the United States. That same year, in contrast, 16% of donations came from educational organizations and a quaint 5% came from corporate donors.
In 2014, Americans managed to outdo themselves yet again with donations for non profit organizations and the like. Total donations amounted to $457 billion, about a 9% increase from the previous year. Interestingly enough, the portion of individual, educational, and corporate donations practically remained the same.
Donations from all peoples and of all types are generous in themselves. However, the sad fact is that much more can be done to help the poor, homeless, and the less-fortunate in society. It is somewhat telling that the organizations that could offer the most — corporate entities — actually donate the least, and that the people who don’t exactly have money or resources to throw around actually donate the most. To make up for this, clothing donations to charity truly provide much-needed help and comfort to the most vulnerable citizens in the U.S.
To donate gently used clothing is to provide much more than clothing itself. Lightly used clothing provide warmth and comfort to those who need it the most. Especially during these hard economic times, clothing donations are needed in record numbers. Fortunately, there are a variety of charitable organizations that selflessly collect and distribute clothing. Some of them go as far as to actually pick up donations from a donor’s front door or curb!
